Dia de los Muertos is about art, culture, and family and we are proud that the Museums of Sonoma County once again host a Memory Portrait competition for middle and high school students across Sonoma County. Students in grades 5 through 12 are encouraged to create a visual media portrait of a friend or family member now among Los Muertos -- the dead. Competition advisor is well known artist Peter Perez. Student entries will be judged and winning Memory Portrait artist will receive $250; second prize $150, third prize $100.
Students' portraits will be on display at the museum through Dia de los Muertos show. Awards will be given on the Day of the Dead Family Day Saturday, Sept. 28, during a ceremony and art show reception from noon to 4 p.m. at the Museums of Sonoma County.
